Mandy's Page
My name is Mandy, and I live with Geri, who takes very good care of me. I haven't always lived with her, but am glad that I found her in the later stages of my life, because I know that she will be there for me when I need her.
I don't remember the first 2 years of my life, but I remember showing up at the door of a woman named Mim. She thought I was a kitten because I was so small! When she took me to the Veterinarian's office, he told her I was 2 years old, and she was really shocked! She made sure I had everything I needed - shots, food, toys, and good grooming. There was another cat living in that house, too, whose name was Michelle, and we got along okay, but were never the best of buddies. I prefer to have all of my human's attention to myself.
After living with Mim for 10 years, one day, she brought home a slobbery, ugly creature called a DOG! I didn't know what to do! I cried all the time - all day, and all night! I started tearing my hair out, and I stopped eating. I couldn't stand being in the same house with that dog! He scared me SOOOOO much! Pretty soon, Mim took me to live with some people who had 6 other cats, and I didn't like that, either. What was I going to do? Then Mim took me to another house with lots of cats, but they were all mean to me, and I really hated it there. I kept on crying all day and all night. I was beginning to think of running away, when Mim found Geri for me. Thank goodness!
Life with Geri is the best I have ever known. She loves me SOOOO much, she has photos of me everywhere - in her wallet, on her desk at work, and all over the walls of our house! I'm her little kitty-girl, and she spoils me rotten! She leaves a heated throw blanket on all the time so that when my tired old bones get a little chilly, I can curl up and feel nice and warm. We spend a LOT of time together, and even though she is away during the day, I hardly notice at all, because that's the time that I sleep. Speaking of sleeping, Geri has made "nests" for me all over the house, so I can be comfortable wherever I go! My favorite spot of all is on top of the upright piano inside an open antique suitcase with a blanket inside, just for me! I can be in a high place, look out the windows, and be cozy, all at the same time! It's great!
My Grandma and Grandpa call me their "grandkitty," and they come stay with me or I stay with them when Geri has to go out of town, although that's not very often. Grandma loves it when I sit in her lap and purr. I like it, too, because she's got a nice, warm lap.
I've lived with Geri since 1995, and like I said earlier, I'm so glad Mim brought me to her! I love her, and she loves me and takes very good care of me! I am very ill these days with feline cardiomyopathy, and my kidneys have failed, but Geri gives me subcutaneous fluids and medicines all the time. I don't much like the fluids, but I know she has to do it. I complain like crazy, but I do know she's doing it for my own good, and I love her for it! Everything else in my life is pure luxury - what a wonderful life this is!
If you are a cat and want to tell me your story, I'd love to hear it! You can e-mail me anytime! I'm all ears!
